“Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptising them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit…teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you.” – Matthew 28:19-20 (NIV)
In the closing words of the Gospel of Matthew, Jesus gave His disciples a profound command and an eternal mission. He instructed them to go forth into the world and make disciples of all nations, baptising them in the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. This commission was not just for the disciples of that time; it extends to every believer today. As followers of Christ, we are called to share our faith with others, to spread the Good News of salvation, and to cultivate disciples who will also follow Jesus. Sharing our faith, therefore, is not an option but a divine calling for every believer.
The idea of sharing our faith can sometimes be daunting. We may feel inadequate or fear rejection, but remember, Jesus promised to be with us always as we fulfil this mission. The power to share this faith does not come from our own abilities or persuasive skills but from the Holy Spirit working within us. As we step out in faith, the Spirit empowers us, gives us courage, and equips us with the words to say. We are merely vessels through which God’s love and grace flow to touch the lives of others.
Moreover, it is not just about preaching and proclaiming the Gospel. It involves living our belief daily, being a living testimony to God’s goodness and grace. Our actions, attitudes, and relationships should reflect Christ’s love and transformative power. How? By living authentic Christian lives, thereby attracting others to the faith and creating opportunities for conversations that can lead to sharing the Good News.
We share our faith with love, compassion, and respect. We listen to stories, concerns, and doubts and are ready to address questions and fears. Genuine relationships built on trust and understanding create fertile ground for seeds of faith to take root. This is our calling.
As we embark on this mission, remember that our responsibility is to plant seeds, but it is God who brings the growth. We may not always see immediate results, but we can trust in the power of the Holy Spirit to work in the hearts and lives of those we encounter. Our role is to be faithful and obedient, leaving the results in God’s hands.
Prayer
Dear Heavenly Father, thank You for entrusting us with the mission of sharing our faith. We recognise our dependence on Your Holy Spirit to empower and guide us in this endeavour. Grant us boldness, wisdom, and discernment as we engage with others. Help us to be loving, compassionate, and patient as we seek to share the Good News of Your salvation. May our lives be a reflection of Your grace and love, drawing others to You; in Jesus’ name, Amen.
